There’s good news for seniors hoping to gain more money for college: the PTSA is offering a $500 scholarship to eight graduating seniors.

To qualify for this scholarship, students or their guardians must be active members of PTSA before the deadline of April 16. Applicants must also have a GPA of 2.5 or above, no lower than a B in citizenship throughout all four years of high school, and must be attending a college in the year that the scholarship is awarded. A transcript must be submitted alongside the application.

On top of the general application, students also have to complete an essay on who at Rio has been their biggest influence and why.

To ensure the selection process is fair, names will be removed from applications while the PTSA Scholarship Committee makes the final decisions. The decision will be based on students’ essays, their extracurricular activities, their citizenship grades and other information included in the application.

The recipients of the scholarship will be announced at Senior Awards Night.
