Women’s golf starts league

Women’s golf is on course to go par.  They were in a tournament on September 23 at Diamond Oaks along with Mira Loma, Cordova, Antelope, Whitney, and El Camino.

“We did not do too well collectively as a team,” said sophomore Maddy Miller, who also is a part of student government.

They placed fourth out of six teams in the 18 hole tournament.

With the team’s reaction to the loss, it appears that the ladies will work hard to lower their scores to compete with the other league opponents.

The league tournament served as a barometer for how the team has improved so far this season.

After losing captains Haley Ayres and Sydney Selix last year after they graduated, the team has been facing an uphill battle to recover.

There is no shortage of replacements, as two underclassmen have immediately stepped up to the top of the team’s scoresheet.

Miller shot an 85, and sophomore Sarah Knepshield shot a 106 to lead the Raiders against their Capital Athletic League rivals.
The team has their second tournament coming up on October 14.  They are hoping to improve on last tournaments scores.

There is one struggle within the team, though. The team only has five players, which means all five must be at their best every day in order to compete with bigger teams.

With the league season started, the team will have to adapt quickly if they are going to meet the bar set by their opponents.
