Netflix Review: Top Gun

Top Gun

The movie that is your Netflix review this month is “Top Gun”. It is a action drama movie about a pilot, named Pete “ Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise), who is invited to go through a pilot school named Top Gun Naval Flying School. During Mavericks time at the school he became increasingly close with a female named Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood (Kelly McGillis). Charlie is the civilian instructor who is hired to teach the pilots what is safe technique in the air and what isn’t safe technique in the air. Drama happens during the flight school that could possibly get Maverick kicked out of the school. His partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards) sticks with him through the whole ride until a large plot twist occurs towards the end. While at flight school Maverick has an arch enemy, named Iceman, who challenges his abilities as a pilot while mid air.

The movie was released in theaters on May 12th, 1986. The movies run time is 110 minutes (1 hour and 50 minutes). Top Gun is rated PG so it is a family movie that anyone can watch. The movie takes place in San Diego, California at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Although the movie seems very unrealistic with the inaccurate time lengths that pilots fly and the types of airplanes that the pilots fly, it is not supposed to be 100% accurate. The movie was made to look, sound, and be cool for its time period. The movie rocks for the time it was made in and it is still fair to say it rocks now. I mean the movie is a classic of all time war movies and it features Tom Cruise as the main character. Almost every teenage girl in that time was in love with Tom Cruise.

This movie is more for children or old people who have already seen the movie because it has a easy plot to understand and it holds the same feeling of a old action movie that should keep watchers intrigued. Most teenagers would find that it has bad graphics, it has boring times, and not enough action. I find that the movie is very easy to watch and that it is easy to keep track of what is happening. There are some funny scenes and some very serious scenes, overall it was mostly drama. I rate this film 3.5 out of 5 stars.
