The Duck Derby fundraiser finished with record-setting splash last week as Principal Brian Ginter jumped into the pool in a suit and emerged with the winning duck.
Karen Roberts and English teacher Megan McGlamery each claimed a $500 grand prize in the raffle in which rubber ducks replace tickets.
Twenty people won $100, and the freshman class netted $1,000 when it edged out the senior class.
“Preliminary numbers show our fundraiser brought in $21,480 with a profit of $16,000,” said Duck Derby Chair Kelli Wheeler. “We sold 1,408 ducks – over 500 more than the 2016 Duck Derby and it was an actual race to the finish with the freshmen class overtaking the seniors on the last day earning $1,000 for their class.”
It was a festive atmosphere in the quad with music by senior DJ Blake Harris. Rio nutritionists sold BBQ hamburgers, hot dogs and Crazy for Yogurt.
