School Improvement Workshop Results Released
April 24, 2012
The School Improvement Workshop, organized by the PTSA in conjunction with Principal Ginter, is a valuable tool for brainstorming ideas and concerns that parents, students and teachers may have regarding Rio Americano. All of the students and parents that attended were asked to give suggestions as to what changes they would like to see at Rio Americano. The purpose of the discussion is not to brainstorm whether ideas can be carried out, but rather, to identify issues, ideas and concerns the families and faculty at Rio believe need to be implemented or changed.

In 2010 and 2011 the Rio community participated in creating Rio Strategic Plan instead of having the annual School Improvement Workshops.
The action plans which Rio worked on for the years 2010-2011 were:
Tactic # 1: Action Plan # 3: Complete the P21 Mile Guide (Partnership for 21st-Century Skills) and or other assessments to evaluate Rio’s 21st-Century accomplishment and needs annually.
Tactic # 2: Action Plan # 1: Adopt “LinkCrew” as Rio’s Transition Program to provide orientation, mentoring, connectedness and support for all 9th graders.
Tactic # 2: Action Plan # 2: Expand available tutoring services to include options before school and during lunch.
Tactic # 3: Action Plan # 4: Implement a comprehensive system to communicate all school-related activities to all families.
Tactic # 4: Action Plan # 1: Create a student store with raider gear to foster school spirit and pride.
Tactic # 4: Action Plan # 5: Implement instruction around integrity, ethical behavior, and respect based upon definition created by a student/staff/parent group.
