School Canceled Through April 12

Message from sanjuan.edu:

Please know that this information and guidance is subject to change, pending any updates from state and federal officials.

We want to stress that this action is a mitigation effort and is NOT the result of a confirmed case of COVID-19 among any of our students or staff in the district. It is also done with an abundance of concern for our students, staff members and community.

We are involved in a highly fluid situation with constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19. As we’ve shared previously, we continue to be in close contact with health officials and at their advice and in coordination with other school districts we have made the decision to close San Juan Unified campuses to students as of Monday, March 16. We will be closed to students through the end of spring break (Sunday, April 12), including athletics and all extracurricular activities.

While our school facilities will be closed, plans are being put in place for students to access optional enrichment opportunities. Each school site will create a document, which will contain information on how to communicate virtually with staff members during the closure. This information will be shared with school communities next week. We appreciate your patience while staff works to implement virtual office hours.

In addition, each school website will have a list of online enrichment resources to maintain learning during school closures. We will not be asking students to complete any assignments. Our intent is to provide virtual office hours to support students with enrichment opportunities.

While we are closed to the public, a dedicated team from our maintenance and operations department will be conducting a deep cleaning of our campuses to ensure our facilities are sanitized prior to reopening.

San Juan Unified will provide an opportunity for families to pick up two meals daily (lunch and breakfast for the following day) in a mobile walk-up or drive-thru meal service for children 18 and under. This will begin Tuesday, March 17 at 26 school sites from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At this time, this service will continue through Friday, April 3, Monday through Friday at the following locations:

These meals will be available free of charge for anyone 18 and under regardless of what school they attend. No paperwork is required. Children must be present in order for meals to be provided. Meals will be provided based on the number of children present. This program will be solely for the pick up of meals, and meals will not be consumed on-site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site and utilizing social distancing once meals have been distributed.

We will continue to do our best to keep you informed. Circumstances may change quickly so we encourage you to check our website at www.sanjuan.edu for updates.

We recognize that this closure will be a hardship for many families and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we help to ensure the safety and well being of our students and families.
