As of November 4, the school began closing all hallways after school at 3:30 p.m. as a precaution to eliminate locker theft.
As a result, students who are involved with after school tutoring and extracurricular activities no longer have access to their belongings after this time.
“When you play a sport and you have practice right after school, there isn’t always time to get all your stuff out of your locker,” said Sophomore Zack Coleman. “Alot of people would go back to their lockers after practice was over and get their stuff then.”
However, many students don’t mind the new rule set in place.
“I’m sure it’ll prevent more people from getting their things stolen out of their lockers, but people still need to be more careful about making sure they actually lock them,” said Senior Kelsey Corrick.
Administration is working with the school district in order for cameras to be readjusted for better coverage of the entire school, in hopes that this too will ensure the safety of students belongings.
“It’s necessary because there’s been such a major issue with theft at this school, so many students have had their things stolen,” said Social Studies Teacher Natalie Hanson.
Although the early closure is an inconvenience for some students, until there’s another way to keep the lockers secure, students will have to plan ahead and make sure they acquire everything they need before 3:30 p.m.
Those who have no respect for other peoples belongings ruin it for the students this now affects. As much of a hassle as it is, the benefits of closing the lockers up early, outweigh the risk and expense of not doing so, resulting in students belongings continuing to be taken and having to be replaced.
